Argentina’s Agricultural Harvest 2026/2027: A Record-Breaking Projection
The agricultural harvest for 2026/2027 in Argentina is projected to reach a national production of 157.9 million tons, a 0.5% increase from the previous cycle. This projection, made by the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange, would maintain Argentina’s record-breaking levels. The Exchange also forecasts agro-industrial exports worth US$41.497 billion and a fiscal revenue of US$15.037 billion, a 3.9% increase from the previous cycle.
Projected Sowing Area and Crop Production
The sowing area across the country is expected to reach 37.02 million hectares, a 0.2% increase from the previous cycle. Soybeans are projected to occupy 17 million hectares with a production of 53.6 million tons. Corn, a central crop for the agro-industrial economy of Córdoba, is expected to cover 8.4 million hectares and contribute 66 million tons, a 3.1% increase from the previous campaign.
The increase in the value of exports, significantly higher than the increase in volume, is largely due to the recovery of prices and a more predictable macroeconomic scenario. This comes in a context where the government of Javier Milei has been progressively reducing export taxes and maintaining a policy of exchange rate stability, which the sector itself has identified as a key factor for long-term investment planning.
The Role of Córdoba in the Agro-Industrial Record
Within this national scenario, Córdoba once again plays a central role. According to data from the Córdoba Grain Exchange, the combined production of the province’s main summer crops would be around 41 million tons, an increase of approximately 21% from the previous campaign, mainly driven by corn and sunflower.
In this context, corn is the star of the Córdoba campaign. The combination of a larger sown area and good yields would allow the province to achieve a record production of nearly 26 million tons. The departments of Marcos Juárez and Unión are among those that recorded the highest yields.
The projected agricultural investment for the campaign in Córdoba would reach US$3.768 billion, a 9% increase from the previous cycle. The estimated contribution in terms of export taxes would be around US$2 billion, according to calculations by the Córdoba Grain Exchange.
Less Distortive Taxes, More Incentive to Invest
Ricardo Marra, president of the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange, highlighted during the presentation the decisions aimed at organizing the macroeconomy, reducing distortive taxes, and facilitating trade. He valued the progress made in terms of export rights. “We value every step taken in reducing export rights. We believe that progressively moving towards their elimination is fundamental,” said the leader.
For the sector, these types of measures not only improve the producer’s result but also generate better incentives to produce, invest, incorporate technology, and export. In Córdoba, this translates into more hectares sown, more corn harvested, and an agricultural investment that continues to grow campaign after campaign.
